BY THEN IT'LL BE TOO LATE (feat. ALI COYLE) _ 1st single taken from Yppah's upcoming new album, out Feb. 2020 on Future Archive Recordings.

Legendary genre-bending producer Yppah will release his new LP via Future Archive Recordings in February 2020. Lead single By Then It’ll be Too Late is out today and is a gleaming crown jewel in the distinguished artist’s catalogue. Yppah has been furrowing his own path for years, his context heavily anchored in the turntable, scratch and sample-led hip-hop scene of the 90s. With three classic albums for Ninja Tune, he began growing and folding in his new love for shoegaze, post-punk and indie.

Now recording bass, guitar and writing beautiful new wave ballads, anchored by thumping trip hop rhythms there are nods to a myriad of sounds and records, his love for The Chameleons, Interpol or The xx as bold as his continuing affinity mastery of trip-hop. Forlorn and shimmering guitars seems to glide over rolling beats, lifted more by the presence of Ali Coyle’s star turn on vocals, recalling the heady heights of Massive Attack’s Unfinished Sympathy. In fact, perhaps that interesting and strange connection of Cocteau Twins’ Liz Frazer and Massive Attack’s more magical moments is a key clue to the juxtaposition and relationships of Yppah’s textures and compositional conventions; worlds colliding to dramatic and emotive effect through hip-hop and indie music genres.

This is a vital point in Yppah’s career and narrative. Making the move from Ninja Tune and Counter Records to the new imprint Future Archive Recordings comes at a pivotal point in his private life. With relationships ending and new beginnings abound, he took four years with over 60 sketches and demos before picking the final ten cuts that would form the new album – a signifier that Yppah’s path is wide open and possibilities all around him. A new creative energy seems to have infected the record, connecting to the world of Future Archive Recordings and the tight-knit artist community they have fostered. With other key Ninja Tune alumni Blockhead – as well as the label-founding members Arms and Sleepers, Sun Glitters, Little People, and CNJR – Yppah now has a stable to let loose from once again. With North American and European tours coming up in support of the new record, 2020 is set to be his biggest year yet.
